Steam can go fuck themself for putting Hollow Knight on sale ***********AFTER******** I purchased it not even 5 hours later. If you are a store about to do a fucking sale like that, you need to warn your buyers-- especially when the refund policy is 2 fucking hours. Fuck you.

You can still get a refund even after 2 hours of playtime. The 2 hour limit is more of a "typical" limit on refunds but if you give the reasoning that the game had just gone on sale after you purchased it, it's not uncommon to still get the refund. I'd just submit a ticket and explain what happened.

I'm 5 hours in. I literally been playing it AS it went on sale-- which is what pisses me off the most. I've already requested one but if I dont, I am going to make it Steams problem going forward... Absolute BS there isn't a thing in place as a warning to wait for a sale LITERALLY HOURS AWAY.

As far as I'm aware, Valve is not the only one that dictates when products go on sale. I believe they send out invitations to publishers for big events such as the summer and winter sales, but publishers can opt into or start their own sales whenever they want as well.

I know it is frustrating when stuff like this happens. It sucks and feels really unfair. Best thing you can do is take Dice's advice here and send in a ticket explaining the situation and wait. Steam is quite understanding towards their consumer base so you might very well get your discount.

5 tickets, all denied and 0 human interaction. I am just going to have to take the L on this one.
