The counter-argument being that the manufacturer does not claim that its product has the intelligence of a PhD and will end the need for humans in many professions. I'm not against AI per se but I do fear that developers over-promising is half the problem
Not developers, business men and marketers. Business men and marketers make insane promises. Developers are stuck with trying to pull a miracle.

But haz the company repeatedly said in public that you should consult the magic 8 ball for all your questions and did it advise you on how to kill yourself and hide that you planned to do it?
