people ditching spotify only to move to another streaming service is gonna turn me into the joker tbh.

Increasing my fav artist's income from $0.0001 to $0.001 per play,
bandcamp
was just struggling yesterday with trying to find alternatives. if every artist i listened to was on bandcamp or something, i'd be set without a second thought
this may be controversial but artists and especially labels only distributing through streaming services are part of the problem.
i mean yeah, agreed. i'm just one consumer trying to make the most reasonable choices without any delusions that voting with my dollar is gonna bankrupt the record industry
it's mostly not about the way they pay artists, it's about what the ceo does with the money spotify makes
i'm not an idiot, i know streaming isn't going away and anyone who isn't pulling one brazillion streams a day will never see any real income from it but at least don't pretend you're doing artists any favors just because you ditched one service in favor of another lol
man, i have to vehemently disagree here spotify is a special flavor of evil in this market
don't get me wrong, i'm glad people are ditching it, but streaming is fundamentally fucked
i getchoo, yeah. its an inherently exploitative platform system.
which is like... i get it to a degree, you can't be aware of everything going on. but the self righteous "use apple music instead it's good :)" posting is getting to me a bit lol
yeah i think what bothers me is that spotify is so cartoonishly evil it casts all the other alternatives in a much better light than they deserve and stops most end users from interrogating the issues surrounding the entire streaming model
ive actually been mulling a move to a fully selfhosted like... navidrome or swingmusic instance because i like being able to reach from anywhere
i know people like plex/plexamp but personally i just sync music to my phone like we did 15 years ago lol
admittedly though you 100% are, even small amounts of streams DO pay out even if small amounts... unless you're on spotify, then you get nothing it's definitely a step in the right direction and i'd much rather get £10 from my music than nothing
i would rather someone pirate my shit than me getting 10 bucks and generating 100 for everyone else up the chain
What exactly is the alternative?
buying music.
