Unfortunately, the confederacy stayed alive and well. When I moved to Tennessee from Chicago in 2004 I recall someone referring to the Civil War as the war of northern aggression. In 2004. And we saw how the confederate ex soldiers created skirmishes in communities all over the west by 1881.

The confederacy were not punished severely enough for their treasonous acts, and were allowed too much power, they should have totally dismantled them.

There was no option to hurt Germany at the end of WWI. It was a stalemate. The more relevant lesson there is if they had been helped and befriended after the war (as in WWII) this never would have happened.

It's ok. It's super complicated. Just happens to be an area I've studied alot. Not being so punitive would've helped. The rearming things I agree, but look at the unintended consequences. By banning "artillery" Germany was forced to develop missile technology and small jeeps and motorcycles.

The missile thing is fascinating, because that's how we got the technology to get to space and also create intercontinental nukes. That was German and Jewish scientists. So the sanctions made them stronger in that sense.
