It hasn't been any UK government's priority since Theresa May's speech just after the Brexit vote when she joyfully said the British people's priority was controlling immigration ABOVE improving the economy. The pound dropped (again) as she was speaking.
At least May was honest about the order of priority!
Small comfort James but yeah I guess so. People vote for this, complain when economy (and inequality) fails to deliver the jobs, pay and services they want, then double down on falling for the anti foreigner crap again... and again... and again
