Agree. I switched back to SPD only and have one pair of shoes now. I can actually walk in them, and they’re better out in the field for hike-a-bike

That’s also what I like! One system. I mostly ride a gravel bike but have spd on my road bike as well. The option of street fashion style spd shoes is also a bonus.
This! One pedal == one clip/unclip motion to get used to. I used to run speedplays on my road bikes and I’d invariably have little panic attacks trying to unclip on my cross or gravel bike in a hurry. Plus, SPDs have decent “casual” cleat option.
always been curious about the speed plays too! I also value the variety of footwear styles as you say. I have a more casual pair of Fox unions for my non-lycra commuting rides and love them
I have Chrome canvas shoes I use for around town. I should check out those Fox unions! Speedplays are nice for power transfer IMO bc of how they sit on the ball of the foot, plus clipping in with a stomp is nice. They’re just not practical for anything else and they have to be kept so clean.
the chromes look really cool!
