This is what I’m afraid of. I think what they should be doing is paying taxonomists to write solid ID guides.

I am sure it will. FWIW I never call myself a taxonomist b/c I respect those who did the hard core training/education but I am good at some subgroups of beetles, most Poaceae, orchids in Canada, damselflies, & other things I've happened to research intensively - and I am no longer participating.

A lot depends on how it works. If it effectively picks up characters so I don’t have to repeat them on every ID, that would be good. But it’s very likely to spread bad info too (I’ve seen numerous examples where the majority are wrongly IDed and the CV has now picked it up).
