The US hasn't acknowledged women's rights, indigenous peoples, or Black people's right, or Hispanic. At least they passed a law protecting pets.

Not great for boys either, we don’t have rights to our genitals as circumcision can be done without need. Also animals get anesthesia, the AAP didn’t even recommend pain management for genital cutting until the late 1990s

there's a biography of Buster Keaton by @thehighsign.bsky.social that has a lot to say about pets and children and their rights. it's a very interesting read about Mr Keaton. highly recommend!

Thanks so much! The thing that surprised me most researching that chapter was that the animal rights movement preceded the movement for children's rights and served as the explicit model for it.
