Not really, the Republican Party at one time was very similar to the current Democratic Party. It was the antislavery party. Dems were aligned with states rights. Dixiecrats were evil. Democratic Party broke with the South and transformed into today's progressive political party
I know my history, & I know this is true, don't kill the meme vibes baby 😜 On a serious note, it's not so much the Dems broke with the south as it is the two parties underwent fundamental shifts in ideologies, ironically to steal more voters from the other side, yet Dems never let go of their past
