You can’t blame the Govt for how a privately owned company sets its charges. Just go what I did and switch to a local company at half the price. I’d rather see Govt focus energy on things within its remit.

I live in Canada. We have an energy control board, sets the prices on all energy based on futures on the stock market. The power company is government owned, and when the company wants to raise rates, they need to get govt approval. Its helped keep prices manageable.

For all oil and gas they set a product maximum price and all providers have to stay at or below that price. This week a litre of gas is $1.41 CAD.

deanm97.bsky.social @deanm97.bsky.social

We have a regulator that sets a price cap here for energy. But that’s not what this guy is talking about. British Gas Homecare are the people that come out and service your boiler/furnace and fix plumbing leaks.

Andrew Fisher @fisherandrew79.bsky.social

You can blame the company for the profiteering, you can also expect a government to protect consumers and regulate

avatar
deanm97.bsky.social @deanm97.bsky.social

Yes, although rather than blaming the company just take your business elsewhere. Re regulation, it’s a fully open market and you have total freedom of provider choice so I disagree. Just as with any other free market product we all shop around and are daft if we don’t.

It’s just getting going.. tariffs, ICE, electricity rates, all affect food prices. And tariffs haven’t even fully hit yet. Higher unemployment and low spending might lower some prices but tariffs will permeate all the goods for sale.
