I liked it, started to get a little "eh…" when they were talking about how Germans born after WWII shouldn't feel guilt for what the Nazis did but realized I was framing it from my view of the U.S., where reparations have never been made…
There's also a nuance to be made between "feeling guilt for things before my birth" and "carrying the acknowledgement of the things my forebearers did and acting mindfully in life of that to promote ongoing restorative justice" which as colonial white people... we havent really gotten yet
Bingo. Very well stated. Thank you.
It's something Australia is grappling with in the ongoing efforts to reconcile our own Indigenous genocide and disposession. Or rather the resistance to said efforts.
See and we here in the U.S. have yet to properly reconcile with the many peoples white people killed and displaced, and also the slaves and continued oppression of Black people, and generally any non-white people.
& we continue to oppress & enslave (via the carceral system) Black people. I agree that if it was taken as anything but banter by the club's supporters we would stop singing it, but there's been no indication that way. Really glad they addressed it on the show.
