Indeed. Just open asylum processing centres in Calais and elsewhere. By not having legal routes, the UK is creating the problem. Rejoining the EU and being party to the returns agreement would also destroy the business model for the smugglers (only 9 crossings in the 2 years before the referendum)
Open a processing centre in Sangatte or Calais to accept applications for asylum and offer asylum visas to the UK with instructions for onward processing, conditions and restrictions. #bbcaq
Exactly. The people smugglers’ business model disappears overnight. The same asylum assessment rules and criteria. The only people who are upset are those hoping to see people drown in the channel.
It takes away the image of overcrowded rubber boats in the shipping lanes.
