Somewhere around their mid-70's people will begin to bruise more easily and to end up with these sort of bruises. It is due primarily to thinning skin.

His are caused by IV treatment. The bruises go back years, always on his right hand.

Ah, I thought that only happened when the IV was clumsily inserted. I had that happen once when I was in the ER. But similar looking bruises also occur as people age. My mother used arnica to clear them up more quickly.
