“It’s not a gun issue. It’s a mental health issue.” Fine. Let’s start requiring a mental health evaluation before any gun purchase.

THIS!!!!! All countries have people with mental health issues. America is probably the only country experiencing mass shootings regularly though. Explain that one. 🤔
What if we didn't do abliesm and eugenics and instead got rid of the Nazis? Cause it's a Nazi problem.
There are federal laws in place but like most laws they are only good if they’re enforced. If you have been committed to a mental health facility by court order or deemed a danger to yourself or others by a court order, you can’t buy a gun. State laws are stricter but again, only good if enforced.
Hmm, I don't like this idea, simply because they could deny people who aren't dangerous by twisted logic. I've had bad experiences with mental health professionals who tried to say that my spiritual beliefs were psychosis.
A person who thinks they need a gun may or may not be mentally ill, and they may or may not be right, but they are a danger to anyone close to them regardless.
unless they save your life - this country without guns would still be paying taxes on our tea and bowing to the king we have nuclear weapons because why? we want to kill millions? or we don't want to be irradiated ourselves?
We don’t have mental health issues in the U.S. That is why care for such things is difficult to come by unless you have great insurance. Otherwise, it is too costly for many people to get treated, or at least evaluated.
None of the Republicans would pass.

Good idea. Tho "mental health issue" is just a distraction GOP propagandists use to pretend they want to address gun violence. They consistently vote against funding for mental health. Of course most ppl DK that bc most media are Right Wing & only give a RW view. upine.medium.com/the-vast-rea...
Take away the mental health issues > no more shootings. Take away the guns > no more shootings. Yet they choose neither. Right to life? Not.
Let's start *providing mental healthcare*.
that's a thought instead of taking away my rights fix the problem? you must be canadian or something else cuz I don't think you are murikkan
So, you're cool with paying to provide mental healthcare for everyone? Because that makes me think *you're* Canadian.
And if they voted for Trump, they're by definition not of sound mind...
And funding goddamn mental healthcare.
Too many adults today have the impulse control of children. In the military, the drill sergeant gets in your face and teaches you the impulse control of an adult. That's important. That's how the military only arms minimally thick-skinned adults. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...
On any ordinary day I’d agree… but where we are right now; let’s not pull that trigger yet.
Bad pun - 😏 but I get your point - because the current government would classify all those not aligned with their agenda(s) as crazy which could criminalize everyone and everything they own that could possibly be deemed a weapon.
With the point you're believing in cosmic rights dictator fairy a red flag on mental health?
My only concern is that it would identify too many mental health issues; we already have an insufficient number of professionals. This pours kerosene on the fire.
How about we have mental health classes starting in middle school?
"But ... but most mental health professionala are woke and biased!"
Aw, thank you
Except that a lot of violent people are socio/psychopaths that can elude psychiatry.
Ok. What happens if a perfectly healthy person has a mental breakdown? Or an episode or whatever? They still have access to guns
Sober people have fatal car crashes. We don't give up on making driving impaired illegal. No regulation is perfect. Rational gun regulation would save lives. Not every life, but we could significantly reduce deaths.
In Canada, we have strict gun laws. Everyone is safer
These lunatics will never ket go of the gun fetish. It's sick. But we have to stop Molly coddling this bullshit and get rid of some weapons, screen owners, impose insurance & accountability regulation.
Then require a yearly evaluation.
There are generally signs of a “perfectly healthy person” having issues. They are small, bit they are there. You never know what is really going on within a person’s mind. There are healthy people who die from an undiagnosed disorder, die from a heart attack after having a perfect physical exam.
Can we say that’s it’s both? Trump just removed all of those protections that were put in. He wants violence. 😠
That’s supposed to be with every background check before approval. They’re dropping the ball on this process
Every republican voted against Mental Health Services.
You might very well think that, but I could not possibly comment.
My son used the mental health bs line with me. It didn't go the way he had hoped.
Or accepting any elected office
1 in 4 adults have a diagnosable mental illness.
Perfect
But wasn’t mental healthcare just cut by the republicans?
Yep. Anywhere with that many guns sure does have mental health issues!
Would cut down on WAY 2 MANY SALES
the us stockpiles more nuclear weapons than anyone else the same reason as guns in our homes deterrence
there aren't enough professionals either most will pass - you aren't focusing on the people with the issues punish the wicked leave the rest of us alone
And yet, Republicans voted to cut mental health spending. www.npr.org/2025/03/27/n...
Yeah, giving guns to mentally unstable people doesn't seem like a real good idea. (Start at 2:15) youtu.be/LjQTZdNjoVo
It sounds so simple doesn’t it
