AltNPS has certainly been around a long time & their name is similar, but the first Twitter alt of record was altNatParkServ***. BadHombreNPS was right behind them. By the next morning, there were many. AltNPS may have been created during the influx, but idk the exact when or who.

Deleted my previous comment because I now have some history on the alts from 1.0: 🧵 1. An acct called @ AltNatParkSer** was the first documented Alt. They tweeted the crowd size pics shortly after inauguration. Admin told them to desist. A gag order followed, applying to several agencies.

2. Several other Alts were created then, many within the same 8hr span. 3. BadlandsNPS (official account) started posting about climate change. Apparently a former employee still had access, and wanted the info to get out despite the gag order from admin. Think they turned into @ BadHombreNPS.

It was the fake Yellowstone account that was trying to grift and raise money Alt NPS was asked by all of us to sell merchandise and I can tell you, at the prices they were selling, it has to be cost. I have shirts from alt spaceforce and alt doc, and the websites handle donations from the sales.

If that’s the case, then I can definitely get behind them citing their sources. It’s handy when groups aggregate news, but they should absolutely credit the journalists doing the work. They are very open about not being comprised of NPS workers anymore, though.

I’m blocking the accusers. The verified alts have been mostly behaving in ways that indicate they are trying to be cautious and ethical, with an occasional intemperate response from one or two, when emotions are high.

It really was blind trust. Some of us just stumbled into it accidentally like myself. I love being part of the fam but it really is a giant leap of faith. Mildly terrifying ngl.
