Well one silver lining is how effectively this will destroy Marles, saving us from his Prime Ministership. Hence we should not underestimate his Cabinet colleagues letting this run to its inevitable end
Paul Keating said it was a stupid idea right from the get go. The AUKUS deal is the worst defence purchase decision ever made.
Another @albomp.bsky.social epic fail. No due diligence, just hopped on the Morrison band wagon to be the perfect USA sycophants.
Paying billions for subs we don't get would be bad enough. But not nearly as bad as turning Central Australia into an international waste dump for defence-related nuclear and hazardous waste, including visiting US and UK nuclear-powered vessels. #auspol #AUKUS declassifiedaus.org/2025/05/31/u...
Fck 😳👀
Of course it does & as they say in the classics blind Freddy could see that.

If I was a cynic (and I have become one on AUKUS), I would observe that chasing a chimera may still be cheaper than building a real navy here and now. The real expenditure for AUKUS is in the future. Right now it is cheaper than building (French) subs. Lousy for defence. Great for budget repair. @
What a monumental waste of taxpayers $$$$$$$. from the catastrophically disappointing @australianlabor.bsky.social govt. We must remove ourselves from the pestilence of the US war machine. #auspol #IntegrityFirst
We should all stop paying taxes - because if we pay our taxes (and it funds this BS), we'll become a vassal state (if we aren't one already).
For 35 years after Vietnam, we had a self-reliant defence policy. We need it again johnmenadue.com/post/2025/08...
Vessels for vassals.
I think Labor has pretty much gone along with all of Morrison's policies. Much of a muchness govt in many ways
A mirror image.
Realistically, Australia would only be taking some of US Navies' declining sub nos USN production rates r struggling to maintain 48 SSN, & giving 3-5 to Australia would see a ⬇️ of the combined sub fleets A better option may be Jap Subs - building 1/yr or SK, saving the Collins upgrade
