Massive American-style utes that don't fit in most carparks are getting big tax breaks. "They're not being bought by farmers and tradies, they're being bought by people who just want to have a big car to drive around city streets." - Research Director Rod Campbell @rodcampbell.bsky.social #auspol

In my youth we had "Shaggon Wagons", times have changed and the new faux rugged individualism has spawned the Braggen Wagon!

Remove the tax break and put a 10% tariff on them

I'm not fan of the oversized American Ute, but I do wonder if the problem will self limit when enough buyers become sick of driving a vehicle that doesn't fit anywhere, costs squillions to run in fuel and tyres, and requires a stepladder to enter. Giving them tax breaks though? Nope.

They are extremely dangerous &the drivers are often very aggressive tail gating &speeding. I read somewhere that the fatalities from these huge cars is commonplace as the size of the vehicles causes damage to smaller cars w the engines and bumpers pushing right through the rear of smaller cars

Seriously guys? Recycling a year old article on two year old numbers… American utes make up a tiny portion of yearly sales in Oz. Ford probably sells more Rangers in a month. 🙄

They are a bloody nuisance and the tax should be doubled on them including registration. How can this government spout off about climate change yet encourage these gas guzzlers

If they need a massive ute to drive around it, I suspect they have tiny little penises. Sad.

The real reason there are tax breaks on utes is that the mining companies who own our governments own massive fleets of utes. #AusPol

I wonder who benefits from giant, petrol-guzzling cars being driven around Australian streets? How funny it will be when EVs dominate and ICE vehicles are a quaint reminder of days gone by.
