Such a great movie, it is one of the few adaptations that squarely makes Victor rightly the monster.

It really is great and I love Cushing’s saltiness. Even the flashback to when he was a young man he was really blunt and unfriendly.

Interesting that they left Lee out of the trailer.

I have to be honest, I hadn’t even noticed! I watched the 4K trailer recently, and Lee’s names all over that! This is the theatrical trailer so I guess since Christopher Lee wasn’t well known at the time he didn’t make the credit cut.

I wondered if they worried audiences wouldn’t like the drastic change from Karloff’s monster. I think there was a copyright issue that forced them to stray from the whole neck prong/square head motif.

I watched this on Svengoolie and he actually said that universal threatened to sue them if it was anything whatsoever like their version.

It may also be either because they wanted to keep the monster design a shocking surprise (cf. ALIEN) or because people in 1957 were genuinely revolted by Lee's full-color rotting corpse makeup.
