Unsurprising, there are conservative black people. Sure, I'll be sad he's homophobic but, yeah, not that surprising and for the reasons you stated.

Oh, there seem to be a LOT of conservative black people. But it's more "I'm sad" rather than "I'm disappointed". He had a chance to try and provide a teachable moment and took the path of least resistance.

Some of the acting is a little wooden and you can probably skip around a little. I have certain scene partners I like & others I completely skip. 😊
