I think most of the fan base would have got the message from the Ben White saga five years ago as to the pecking order in the PL. The thing about having our pick of Champo players - the club must have said this somewhere as I’m sure I’ve heard that from some of the Leeds journalists.
Not saying that’s correct, seems risky to wait until deadline day to try and get business done.
It’s not a deliberate strategy. Better players will hold out for offers from the richer clubs (yesterday being a prime example). If those offers don’t come, then they’ll look at clubs like us but not until very late in the window. Prob true we could go for Champ players but we’re trying to upgrade.
Agree - I meant the strategy of trying to get high level targets and, if that fails, we can pick our time and targets from the championship. That last part is a risk, I think. I’d be quite happy if we got Hamer and El Khannouss but another club or difficult owner could scupper that.
You’re right, there’s no guarantee that a club won’t whip Hamer or El K from under our noses. The position we’re in is about the most difficult there is: big clubs have their pick, lower clubs just take what they can. We’re aspirational but without the resources to compete.
