Why are all major media outlets reporting this with the WH framing of it being benign and common? It may be common in older and overweight people but it’s not too great and you don’t want it. NIH literally says it’s not a benign disorder.
Why are all major media outlets reporting this with the WH framing of it being benign and common? It may be common in older and overweight people but it’s not too great and you don’t want it. NIH literally says it’s not a benign disorder.
But can it cause an excruciatingly painful death?
The morbidity is enormous. It's the best morbidity you can get. It's amazing.
Either way, the Big Mac attack has left some skid marks on the Orange Hamburglar.
They're saying nobody's ever seen morbidity like this. They can't believe it!
At least it’s painful.
Oh please, oh please, oh please.
I remember when Venous Insufficiency played bass for a spell in GWAR
ahhh yes, the classic lineup. I miss those days
To a doctor’s eye, top diagnosis is congestive heart failure
🤞
Probably to generate some sympathy for Trump while this Epstein thing gets away from him.
That “enormous morbidity” bit sounds promising.
Oh we want it.
Isn’t the media’s job to credulously report whatever Trump says as the truth?
It was, at least.
You can bet that’s not the half of it.
Stop telling him, Jacqueline!
Great! I'm ever so optimistic that this will be the end of Dear Leader. Will he suffer towards the end? I certainly hope so.
RFK forgot to delete it.
OMG maybe his orange face is a function of insufficiency in his neck!
So, are they telling the truth or just giving a slightly less bad explanation than congestive heart failure?
“carries enormous morbidity” yikes
He’s obese, doesn’t exercise and eats fast food. He’s also in notable cognitive decline and takes drugs - not good ones. There’s a chance he may not make it through the term. Good.
It doesn’t seem to get much coverage, but he just seems completely gassed at this point. He’s always sitting, his voice is barely above a whisper, he falls asleep at high-profile events, and on and on.
Venous insufficiency isn’t benign.
Have you bothered to do your own research on this @washingtonpost.com ? Just because the The White House says it's benign doesn't mean that should be the end of your reporting ... Let me help you out:
"CVI may cause mild symptoms at first. But over time, this condition may interfere with your quality of life and lead to serious complications." -- Source: Cleveland Clinic website (my.clevelandclinic.org/health/disea...)
@jaketapper.bsky.social are you working on a book now about trumps health?
I am on team Venous Insufficiency. Go, go all the way.
Clot! Clot! Clot! *\o/*
If I'm being absurdly charitable, maybe this will convince Trump to not care much about it and one problem will be solved by nature.
Enormous morbidity 🤔
Comments from WH were probably prepared by Ronny Jackson.
Syphilis has the same symptoms Stage 4.
SK Patel just moved to the top of the NIH RIF list
It likely is really, really bad if they are admitting he has it.
Why? Because Joe Biden is old.
Because this White House cannot tell the truth to save their lives
The NIH website will be updated before the day is through. This, from the people who claimed that Biden delayed a cancer diagnosis to manipulate the country. JFC
The white house said it was so they have to write it that way, that's just how journalism works. Apparently.
I never expect the whole truth out of this administration.
Because putting that PressSec phrase in quotes will make their readers think it came from a medical textbook.
good news: the prognosis includes very significant morbidity during difficult bowel movements
looking forward to waking up one day and reading an obituary in the @nytimes.com, you know the one...it will be on the front page.
Venus de Milo loved her aspirin and would shake your hand with warmth and vigor. Tragic, really, when you think about it.
Reporters in the 24/7 news cycle report the lie, because it gives them a second story opportunity when they correct it with the truth. Problem is, most people only read the lie and never see the follow up story with the truth.
We've always been at war with eastasia
Yeah ~5% of American adults have it, but by definition it's not benign. (Minor would have been fine but had to lie). Good thing he obviously has the focus and temperament to lose weight (which is going to have to be hard since his official weight is so low *eyeroll*) and start an exercise regimen.
Edit: oops meant estimated 5% have some form of venous insufficiency since it's comes in many "flavors". Still definitely would prefer to avoid it myself if possible.
I'm counting the days... Hopefully hours...
To continue what that NIH write up says: "Disability associated with chronic venous insufficiency contributes to a diminished quality of life and loss of work productivity." It's easy to do the research.
If he loses any more work productivity it will go negative!
Damn straight it isn’t benign, it’s right next door to developing congestive heart failure
Is is benign. It is often managed by support socks and keeping legs elevated. There are also doctors that to vein ablations to reroute the blood flow to better veins.
So an excellent question to ask Leavett is what level of compression have the doctors prescribed for Trump's socks.
Since when bruising and swelling are benign? Next, the WH will say 47 didn’t have a stroke last year. Right…
He’s obviously on blood thinners for it
Heck, I have it being fat and old, and it’s not pleasant.
Yeah, its frequently painful and can have all sorts of unpleasant effects. Not generally fatal but very unpleasant.
It's just varicose veins Take a breather They were looking for blood clots, which could kill him, so the fact they did not find that is the bad news He's been flying around a lot, which prob contributed, as does his weight May have congestive heart failure, and they could be hiding it, bc of course
It’s literally not considered benign by NIH but let’s use that in quotes in the first sentence from Leavitt and not challenge it.
They just can’t help themselves, even though “Liberation Day” is taking on the same ironic resonance as “Mission Accomplished” it’s still truly irritating that the media adopted that name.
Heh hehe heee hee hee hee. Ooooo I like that
Your underlying point may be right, but it's not accurate to say that the NIH says this. It's just one item in their vast library of medical literature from a range of sources. (When critiquing bad journalism, better to report with precision?)
If it is a condition that needs to be significantly managed, as has *already* been reported, it cannot be “benign” by design
Per RFK just give him a Vitamin A suppository and let nature take it's course
An uncle about his age was diagnosed recently. Other than cinnarizine for a couple of months and the compression socks,, his scans were ok enough to not warrant ant surgery. He'll laugh when I tell him.
He’s an overweight couch potato - the venous insufficiency is in his case a symptom. And the bruised hand is highly unlikely to be a direct correlate with venous insufficiency. My guess is the proximal cause of both issues is congestive heart failure. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
It's my understanding that there are veins throughout the body carrying blood to and from the heart.
they're cooked
is it terminal? can it become terminal? is he dead yet?
So…. You’re telling me there’s a chance?
When was his last " perfect" health exam?
Does this also impact the blood flow to his brain? Because THAT'S certainly not been working well for YEARS...
Meh! I’ve had this for fifty years. It’s a drag, on blood thinners, but unless he skips his blood thinners it won’t kill him. We gotta think of something else….
It’s common in our morbidly obese society. At his age, this condition reduces his life expectancy significantly. Probably on the order of magnitude of half of what it would be without it.
They are going to make him wear the compression socks. There is nothing old people hate more than the compression socks.
Because they are dumb about health and too lazy to look it up when presented with the easy solution of just reporting whatever the authority figure told them. I saw this a lot from both student and professional journalists when I worked as a college journalist.
Doctors and nurses, what are the odds that his discolored hand would be related to this? Would he typically have gotten an IV in his hand while being diagnosed/treated for this?
Neither a Dr or nurse, but anytime a circulatory issue has come up in my experience, they always do a CT scan with contrast to determine whether there are any blockages causing the situation. They usually route of giving the contrast dye (for me at least) has been an IV on my hand
Guess NIH's new leadership didn't get around to wiping that one off the site yet.
It’s also hard to believe that his physician hasn’t known about this in April. From 0 to 3- 4 in just three month?
And more likely much longer than that.
I have a friend who has this condition and he's needed two surgeries. He's not in good health
Yeah it’s not something healthy people get and it leads to major problems.
Uhhh, I am an otherwise healthy adult and was diagnosed with this condition. I am tall and worked at a standing desk all day, which contributed to one of my veins failing. I'm not saying the media should downplay this, but let's not paint with a broad brush.
What makes u think that is the only thing wrong with him? It wouldn’t be to the WH advantage to fully disclose now would it, considering how much they have flat out lied about everything else.
He's just saying it could be benign or it could be serious. His is benign. My friend's is serious.
I didn't say he doesn't have co-morbidities, I am just saying the OP is wrong that this by itself is some gigantic death sentence. I had one surgery, and I am fine, and no longer at risk.
Okay if u want to nic pic, but trust it anit the whole story. That’s my point.
I have it in a leg I tore apart playing basketball decades ago. They told me to wear a 20-30 compression sock and keep an eye on it. I’m 66 and still playing softball. I suspect it’s more dangerous when it’s both legs and not due to injury. Shrug.
Are you a stimulant-addicted, activity-adverse, obese septuagenarian with dementia? It’s the co-morbidities that’ll get you.
I'm sorry that happened to you.
And they told us sitting was bad. We can't win. All the best.
He must’ve really screwed up as Trump’s dad lived to be 94. Perhaps the Big Macs will pass their final judgement soon.
come on, you know why
Does this look like a man with chronic veinous insufficiency? Get your facts straight!
It looks like he has edema everywhere
Like you can mention the White House’s spin on it in paragraph 6 but it absolutely doesn’t need to be in the headline.
Good thing he doesn't have to work a lot on airplanes
Expect that reference to be removed from the NIH website in 3…2…1…
Who needs a normal blood flow in their system? Not that guy
The long term diagnosis is JDVancectomy.
Well he’s vain and completely insufficient… so the disease fits
On the upside that means he's about to drop dead
You see they put it in quotes so that absolves them of any responsibility to report it accurately or objectively. They’re not passing it as fact, just quoting what the WH said is what their weak ass defense is.
Let's check back on this in 6 hours, wouldn't at all be surprised to see it edited out
Don’t worry, RFK Jr’s gonna update that webpage soon
My only question is, where is the Epstien list?
"The legs are a pathway to the heart: connections between chronic venous insufficiency and cardiovascular disease" -The underlying pathophysiology involves venous hypertension in the legs... leading to retrograde blood flow, calf muscle pump dysfunction... and right heart failure.-
The real question is how long he's had this as we've seen bruises on his hands for years.
Everyone who wrote that at NIH has just been sacked though
NIH says that FOR NOW
prayers
🥔 & 🍐
wow, so they are actually acknowledging a health issue
If it distracts from Epstein, sure
This administration always lies and the media is happy to spread their lies. It used to only be FAUX but it’s now all MSM.
Plus its not the total truth, you can BET this is actually caused by congestive heart failure.
I'll let my garden club know. Feedback is helpful.
I'll bet someone googled 'vein issue' and the WH used the first thing that came up.
If it was Biden he’d be impeached already.
Wouldn't be surprised if they impeached Biden anyway.
Agreed; plus, it doesn't actually explain the hand bruising.
They must be seeking a diversity of opinion.
I am sticking to my signal theory. He never releases health information and he did it unprompted. I do not think it is a distraction, I think it is a signal to his donors that he is going soon, they should get their last requests in, and prepare for transition. #LondonBridgeisDown
I don’t think Trump ever worries about his legacy or his mortality. He’s transactional about everything and assumes that as long as he can (or the taxpayers can) pay the doctors, they will keep him alive.
US political media is mostly filled with stenographers now, thanks for calling them out.
DT's major media is reporting this now because it's moving the light off of the Epstein files. Obviously, they decided it was a lesser distraction to focus on and just enough to stop talking about his involvement with Epstein and sex trafficking. Otherwise his condition would still be "perfect".😠
The disparity between the way they treated Biden and the way they’re treating Trump on matters of health demonstrates a laughable lack of credibility.
I guess @jaketapper.bsky.social will be all over this one and write a book I also want to see Democrats speak about his poor health and ask him to step down like the Republicans did with Biden.
Of the many, many benefits of Trump kicking, the sweetest might be the opportunity to ram the obvious double standard that Jake Tapper and the WHCA employed in covering the elderly, fading candidates running in 2024 campaign straight up their smug asses.
💯
Those unserious dorks should be completely unemployable in the post-Trump world. And that world feels really close today. Guys like tapper should be putting a lot of thought into what they’re going to be doing next because it shouldn’t be journalism
Definitely closer than it’s ever been. 🙏
Any chance he'll be dead soon?
Well, in that case, somebody better dismantle the NIH immediately. 🤔
I read not usually life threatening but can cause pain and effect quality of life.
Ronnie Jackson’s superman?
With the bruising he’s obviously on blood thinners
president Thiel via vance coming right up.
The first casualty of trumps war on reality was... fact checkers.
Not once the administration gets through with it.
It’s kidney failure. The same thing happened to my dad. Soon he will be in a lazy boy recliner with his feet up staring a Fox News wondering what happened.
And all those flights contribute to risks for deep vein thrombosis
Absolutely! Any therapeutic "lifestyle change" (fat chance🤣) would be accompanied by a prohibition against air travel. That Saudi jet might not be just the thing right now.
I hate how this disinformation could hurt other people with this diagnosis. It needs careful treatment and management. It can be painful and have various complications. We don't want to end up with a load of older folks saying "they said it was benign" and not seeking appropriate care.
Likely has poor blood flow to his brain…. Explains a few things!
Know what else is extremely common in older people? Death. Saying something is common is not in any way a measure of its seriousness.
It's not at all benign, the result probably of deep vein thrombosis, which is the real problem.
It's a common condition among the people who don't have very much time left on this earth.
Bingo.
So given the high “liar liar pants on fire” aspect of this administration, I’m thinking it’s worse then they want us to believe .
WH framing re: this condition: NEVER A BIG FACTOR IN TERMS OF LIFE
One more reason (they didn't need) to destroy NIH.
Even a nobody like me could spend 2 minutes finding out how serious it is. Neither the media nor the gov’t is worthy of the rest of us. bsky.app/profile/rigg...
"Enormous morbidity" Yes please
That’s how they’ve tried to frame his entire presidency it is total malpractice!
Not about Joe Biden?
Consistency?
It’s not benign but it’s not exactly … bad. The morbidity is heavily cosmetic.
Now that said he’s clearly having clots and likely strokes and this is full of shit but … it’s about what it is
Holy Orange Sausages, Batman!
Nothing about the Failed Trump administration is totally normal
Because the corporate for profit media are stenographers for right wing propaganda. So they dont get whined at by the snoowflakes.
