Hey, I tried to DM but couldn’t figure it out. Can I ask how peace corps was in your 30s? I’m schedule to leave in a month and having real hard time deciding for sure, since I am in my mid 30s.

Oh wow. That’s cool you’re joining the Peace Corps. For me, honestly, it was a difficult transition. That age is a weird time. I went in with 4 other 30somethings that served with me in my cohort and I was the only one that made it the whole 2 years.

At that age, many of us are just finding our footing with life and Peace Corps life is A MAJOR adjustment. I lived in an incredibly under resourced country and it made service that more difficult. But it was so much positive about it for me.

The community, my host family with whom I’m still close with, the challenge in language was steep but rewarding, and all the community building you learn on the job. And don’t let me forget losing yourself in another culture and embracing the challenge of building trust and lasting connections.
