“Why would ABC "News" hire such a dumb retread?” Retread? Why do I have the feeling he really meant to use a much harsher & nasty slur which has very similar letters in it.

That was my first thought. Bullies called me the R-slur over & again as a child due to my AuDHD & deafness. Voice dictation probably autocorrected to anything but the intended slur.
