I grew up in Texas and sent the last 40 years in California. The culture difference between LA and Houston is not that great. I've never lived in rural CA, but I bet it's not that different culturally from rural Texas, climate aside.

I moved from CA to GA about 30 years and I was a real oddity back then. Georgia has moved forward since then and lots of transplants. Texas is just stuck in sone imaginary fight with CA. It’s ridiculous. Arizona too.

My ex's Texas family had a hard time accepting me. He returned to his misogynistic roots when we moved there. I moved back to California after my (out of wedlock--gasp) son was born because, as I said, I did not want him to grow up to be a JoeBob kind of guy.

As a lifelong Californian, I have met so many people who say that they "hate California." I ask them what part they visited. And, 99% of the time, they've never set foot in the state. The 1% name some awful spot they visited because a relative lived there, and they were 10.
