I agree with you on product of their times but some films do induce the cringe for me even though I grew up with them and loved them when they were released. Loved Klute when I saw it so many years ago.

Sure. You don't have to be oblivious to things that wouldn't fly now. But often those things are opportunities to reflect on some of the progress that has been made. Of course there are also things that were highly controversial even in their own times. Griffith had to make Intolerance because...⬇️
...there was such an outcry over the racist Birth of a Nation. Gone With the Wind was picketed in Atlanta and elsewhere in 1939 for its racism and romanticism of the Antebellum South. Song of the South was another. And you can find smaller things in thousands of films through the years.
