If I die and go to heaven perhaps St. Peter or Giovanni Sartori will tell me what regime type I really lived in at this moment in time. Until then, as a matter of collective sensemaking, the degree matters less than the direction of change, which is obvious to anyone who wishes to see it. (2/3)

By any conventional measure, we have crossed a threshold in this country where democratic institutions are being intentionally attacked on a daily basis. Of course these attacks are not always successful. But a few failed campaigns does not (should not) disguise the fact that one is at war (3/3).

Relevant @raskin.house.gov point: "The best predictor of a successful coup is a recently failed one where the plotters learn the weaknesses in the existing structure and then regroup to try again. " www.instagram.com/reel/CmZdLZe...

Most of these “democratic” institutions were for decades already making decisions based on corporate funding and sectarian electoral loyalties more and more.

This is the very definition of the failed response to J6 and broadly the first Trump administration. So many "reasonable" people said that the fact that they didn't succeed was proof that the system worked and not that we were just lucky. That anyone would even try what they did was the failure.
