Looking it up, just as I thought, the number of people in the Los Angeles prison system is literally twice the population of my small city. I think if us small towners knew, we would be on the same page. Which is why Fox News does what they do.

LA's incarceration rate is actually lower than the national average. Obviously that speaks more to how high the national average is, but also LA just has a lot of people, so you'd expect the total number of people incarcerated to be quite high.

The United States has an obscenely high incarceration rate. There are entire industries formed for selling items meant for prison inmates to the United States.
