You know what I don't remember Democrats doing in 2009? Running on improving the ACA. Most of them were trying to distance themselves because they could not defend it without upsetting their donors. FDR got five terms because he did stuff for the people. There is a lesson there.

He got four terms and was arguably only won the fourth time because of the war. Anyway, the shellacking of the 2010 election wasn’t because the Dems didn’t run further left.

I stand corrected on the number of terms, but I don't think I'd call this close. www.270towin.com/1940-election 2010 underperformance I'd say was very much driven by a collapse of support from the base who felt betrayed by the Democrats inability to execute on Democratic priorities.
