That’s where you are wrong though- their orders, while dubious, are legal. During a declared emergency the president can authorize up to 30 days for DC and federal lands. The emergency is made up, and his talk of other cities is nonsense, but sometimes the worst things ARE legal.

I hate that you're right. Good thread.

I can accept your argument as sincere and perhaps even technically correct. However, I would suggest that this deployment being explicitly in support of rounding up homeless people and immigrants, that those orders constitute support of and complicity in crimes against the United States.

And I don’t mean this back and forth with you to be disrespectful, I appreciate the dialogue and I agree with you with just glaring caveats I cannot let go of. Which is not your fault, it’s his. Those glaring caveats are: 1) participating in political events by letting trumpy film commercials

The military is a nonpartisan force. Or, at least, it was. Now, I don’t see much reason for the public to continue affording them the benefit of that doubt. When they’re out there protecting ICEholes and gleefully participating in partisan political stunts by the tyrant.

This is of a kind with how ICE and CBP have allowed television hosts and TikTok hate tweeters to go along on “patrols” and help rough up “suspects” and film it and broadcast it for the consumption of their base and propaganda outlets That is base betrayal of their oaths of office and unprofessional

The military commanders should not be permitting their soldiers to interact with the public or the press in any capacity without being permitted by a civil affairs officer. Because the executive branch is absolutely using them for political campaigning. It’s corroding any trust that remained.

The damage being done to the republic and to the military is incalculable and unknowable at this early date. The DoD knows damn well it is to avoid partisanship, and has abandoned that pillar of the republic after the tyrant purged the pentagon of people of color and non trumpists.

And to wrap this back together; we are rapidly approaching a moment where the GQP finally rapes and murders all semblance of law and order on the national mall. If the military stands for it, they will fall with it.

When they make it clear there is no law that binds them and no rights that protect us, the legal fineries will no longer be cover and their choice to soft pitch this partisan fuckery is going to come up in some courts martial. As it should.

When Democrats get back Congress in less than 2 years, there WILL be hearings. The military WILL have to testify to these deployments and WILL have to answer for all this. It is legal now. But so were the German concentration camps. Totally legal. youtu.be/o9dLO77OSao?...

To be honest, much of their conduct currently is, at best, a legal gray area. The military is not to be used for partisan photo ops. Military members are specifically prohibited from politicking in uniform. And them allowing Vance and then Trump to film campaign adverts with them is criminal.
