Begging writers to stop saying “crackdown”
Begging writers to stop saying “crackdown”
Yep lets crackdown on its use
it’s what happened (and continues to happen!) with “lockdown” re: covid
these same writers refuse to describe tariffs as taxes. My hope isn't high
It's a military invasion. Period.
You might enjoy Orwell’s book Politics and the English Language (if you haven’t read it). He absolutely hated the use of common words and phrases like that.
Must be a holdover from the Marion Barry days
I know, crackup is much better.
You need to crackdown on them and make them stop! 😇
It’s such a mean-nothing word.
i prefer 'clampdown' where its applicable www.you-tube.com/watch?v=_lt4...
Precisely! Crackdown on what?! Going about our daily lives!
I don’t know…”Donald Trump Jr. Puts the Crackdown For Five Minutes to Answer Some Questions” seems like a fair usage.
Authoritarian takeover is the proper term.
I just muted references to "Idiocracy."
They need to call it the invasion that it is.
when it is actually a crack up
Breakup?
As long as they characterize it properly — as a”crackdown” on political dissent — I’m okay with it.
Yes, but the Worst Word if the Year is "upended." Just stop with that one too. It's a country, not a chessboard.
Haha. My other contender is “Covid laid bare”.
Oh yeah.
Strongly support your proposed crackdown on the use of this term.
Saw that, too, in Wapo headline, I believe. 🤬🤯 The word implies crackdown ON something... "something" that needs fixing. Using the word legitimizes the behavior. Trump is invading these cities to assert and establish dominance. Completely illegitimate.
Fuck it's killing me to watch everybody changing their language to normalize this
