My nearest VA Clinic, by the way…is an hour and a half away. A minor inconvenience, for me, but for those who aren’t physically mobile…it’s a pain in the ass.

They recently built one close by thanks to Julia Brownly. My dad loves it and they take such good care of him.
What a superb luxury for us as veterans. There is always an line of support buses and vans when I go to the VA. Veterans have helped me from the garage to the building when I was on crutches, and I was finally able to pay it forward. Commute, well, I have sat for four hours trying to go 15 miles.
I hope both are still available in the future.
I recently retired at 62 to be a full time caregiver to a parent. This meant a lapse in med coverage until I’m 65. As a Vet with a service connected disability, I have a great GP at the brand new VA Facility in my FL town. I use every opportunity to praise the level of care by the Pros I see there.
Good for you! Stay safe 😊.
So a 3 hour round trip plus waiting to be seen?
My dad’s was 2 hours away (from Savannah, GA). He was lucky enough to be able to afford private care and so rarely went. It still pissed him off to think of all the vets who just didn’t go or didn’t get care because of the distance. The current administration will make this worse, of course.
Stay healthy friend 💜
My husband works on a Home-Based Primary Care team. They travel to the homes of house-bound veterans, providing care to veterans plus training to caregivers so veterans can stay in their homes longer. It's a great program.
There are times, as a British person, that the USA just leaves you open mouthed - you had to drive for 3 hours to get vaccinated!?!
Yep. Not just that, most Americans seem perfectly happy to pay several thousands of dollars a year for a private plan that sucks, through insurance companies who cheat them at every possible turn, just so they don't have to save thousands and get "socialist" health care. Idiots all over this place.
Being a British ex-pat, the whole of US health care will leave you open mouthed when compared to the NHS. Saying that, generally US ex-servicemen are better served than our British counterparts.
Interested in how ex-services are better served
Well the VA is one place offering a whole wealth of benefits. Also most retailers offer servicemen discounts.
