I read an article about maga voters clinging to a time when education wasn't as important as hard work, and moving up was based on work and motivation. It made a lot of sense. These people can't adjust to change, so they cling to a past that was only perfect in their minds.

I don’t know how it is in California, but here in Wisconsin, the UW is run by the state. I’m guessing all the land grant universities are pretty much the same. Might be a lot harder to intimidate a state government than a private sector foundation.
