I’ve been reading this book. I was interested in a history/bio of Putin. I’m almost finished. I was surprised at first at the similarities between Putins acts to gain complete power and Trumps. Trump is following in the footsteps of this paranoid madman.

The top EU leaders have learned the usefulness of flattering Trump even when he acts like a toddler. It's the only thing he responds to. Unfortunately, they still need him.
They think they need him. The reality is, Trump will turn on them at the most unexpected and necessary time (for them). It’s better to keep distance than ingratiate themselves with Trump. They don’t need to rile Trump up, so holding their tongue is the only course until even that no longer works.
If you ingratiate yourself with Trump, you had better get prepared for the fall.
I'm sure they know how wayward and unstable Trump is. They are handling him as best they can while making other arrangements. I only hope that they will want a relationship with better administrations in the future.
It depends on the next administration. If the next carries on with this same level of depravity, cartelism and criminality, they likely won’t want a relationship. They will “wait and see” with trepidation, as they should.
I know that other countries are sick of the every four-year shift in policies. The last 8.5 years has been a roller-coaster for them too. Trump won't last, and hopefully JD won't get reelected after he's gone.
The problem is that America has now proven that there is no reliability or continuity between administrations. Trump is dismantling not only what Joe Biden did, but things done - & supposedly settled - by Presidents long before him. Not to mention reneging on treaties he, himself, signed.
To be fair, this has been proven time and time again between Democrats and Republicans, long before Trump was ever President. Trump is merely ratcheting the volume up past 11 when past Presidents kept the volume at a lower level.
To a degree, you are correct. This sort of flipping happens internally the world over, but this has affected international relations with the US. The world has - mostly - been able to trust the word of America from one admin to the next, until now, even with such flipping of policy between R & D.
The two parties have been stable and working for the betterment of America and its allies until Trump was elected in 2016. He can't last much longer. His advanced age and poor health will see to that. What happens next? Hopefully something better, but time will tell. It's up to us to find the way.
Fortunately, 99% of what Trump has done is in the form of executive orders, not laws. An appellate court has just ruled that most of Trump's tariffs are unconstitutional so that will go to the Supreme Court for a final decision. Not sure if it will affect the UK. I guess I'm just proving your point.
He's affecting the entire world. Not only do all his EOs need to be undone in court, but something needs to be put in place to prevent EOs being used in this manner ever again. It will take that - & more - for the world to have any trust in America in the future.
