He is so disdainful of Johnny Foreigner (I love one of his put-downs of Desgrange, that he was awful but still one of the great Frenchmen of the c20th) and so full of praise for Our Boys. Being Irish, that just didn't work for me.

Anytime I mention him - and I've mentioned him a few times in different debunking stories - I make a point of mentioning he's a veteran of the Spectator, the Sunday Telegraph, and the Daily Express. Cause that, to me, explains him perfectly.
