I learned the hard way to never give kitties fish. It was a giant vet bill and now he has to have special (read expensive) food for the rest of his life.
Except for the kitties who actually do better on fish. Harpo's internist said he'd grown sensitive to chicken & to stick to salmon & rice.
Correct. One of my cats always got soft smelly stools with chicken based food. We stuck to fish based, which is more than just tuna, folks. There are entire cat diets that feature nothing but salmon, mackerel and sardines.
They are such a picky bunch. 😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹
People often ask me what food triggered Harpo's IBD, so they can avoid it, & I'm like, "every cat is different, food sensitivities are really complex and can change over time." Like Harpo LOVED plant foods. He shared my vegetarian food for over a decade. But he grew sensitive to plant foods later.
Yup. When the topic comes up, I put it this way: it’s the same as being lactose intolerant for people. Some people start out like that as babies, but others (like me) don’t really run into lactose intolerance until they’re in their 30s, and it’s not like flipping a switch. It’s **gradual**.
(… And then I got pregnant in my late 30s and the lactose issues abated somewhat, but only until baby was done gestating. Practically the only thing I miss about pregnancy.)
I grew up drinking a large glass of milk at every meal. I didn’t drink nearly as much as an adult, but I still consumed a lot of dairy products. It’s only since menopause that it has started bothering me.
I never thought about that aspect of the timing. Mine started at about that time.
Sea food, as in tuna? Their bodies can't handle the mercury content of tuna. Best to give her some chicken (cooked with nothing on it), or some very good canned food mixed with rice. Hope she feels better soon, she looks very skinny.
Momma looks exhausted.
She is, but after being rehydrated, she started eating with enthusiasm again.
Our vet told us for cats, "fish" is a 4 letter word. So we avoid it for them. I hope this kitty recovers quickly. It sounds like she's in good hands. ❤️
Seafood made my cat sick too. You shouldn't let her go long without water. The vet may need to give her subcutaneous fluids. Did you consult your vet?
"I’m waiting for permission to give her fluids."
Feel better soon mama ❤️
I hope she feels better soon!
