From what I’ve seen it’s mostly daughter that must remain virgins. And prevent pregnancy. And prevent STIs, etc.

You’re probably right. Parents may be strongly religious and preach abstinence, but then wink-wink if their kid is a boy.
It’s sad that it’s still happening today. I know that was how I was raised. Very religious. No boys in your room while my brother the football player stayed out all night My mom would also have been against Gardasil because the risk of cancer was an added incentive for good girls to say no to sex.
Yes, it is sad. Hard to tell how this would have played out in my highly religious family, if HPV had been known in those days. The only boy was younger, and mom died when he was still pretty young so there were other concerns.
Ah so you get it. Sorry about the loss of your mom. I am sad to say I sometimes get the logic of Christian MAGA because of it. But I also walked away as soon as I knew more So many religions pretend to want to protect women but in reality oppress them.
Thank you for your kind words. In my experience of fundamentalist Christianity, it was about control through guilt and fear of punishment. I don’t think I ever felt that it protected women, or portrayed itself as protecting. Just my take.
You’re right that it’s about control. More specifically controlling/protecting women’s “purity”. No purity= no value But then you marry and have to obey the head of household. And you obey because he knows better since you are innocent of the ways of the world. All throughout we have no agency
