Music. Culture. I watched the first half of “The Brutalist.” I wasn’t that impressed. Great acting. But a drifting narrative. Now come at me!!!

The kind of movie you think should like, but really don't. These days a little escapism is more my speed.
I was unimpressed as well. It was disappointing.
It's too long. (Did you get to the intermission?) But I'm glad I watched the whole thing.
I also did not care much for The Brutalist. I had a hard time becoming engaged with the story. The movie obviously was very well done otherwise. My wife felt the same way. I think I was more into Emilia Perez!
Agree 💯
Concordo com você! Boas atuações mas o filme é só desgraça... E me parece estranho que ele fosse tão famoso na Europa e desconhecido na América tendo suas obras publicadas em revistas...
You’re such a square, man
Damn. I was just about to start “The Brutalist.”
Appreciate the review. Will take a pass. Any more tips?
We watched the whole thing and wondered why we did.
Tom Nicholas hates Nashville, you dislike The Brutalist. Somebody hide Citizen Kane, Throne of Blood, and The Seventh Seal.
I dislike gangster movies, esp the despicable Godfather series. A vast waste of enormous talents to glorify a completely vile topic.
I disliked the first 2/3 of the Brutalist. I thought it was a "great" movie, but I didn't like it. But the last third was remarkable, and made it all worthwhile. Try to give the rest a go.
First half teases a promising classical cinematic epic. Second half devolves into bombastic allegory and (ironically, given the heavy hand) unclear ideological grandstanding rife with sensationalist cliches (including totally unnecessary queer rape). You stopped just in time.
I read there’s an architectural montage sequence that’s pretty cool, but I make it a rule to avoid movies that run beyond 200 minutes.
The narrative works and is coherent IF and only IF you actually watch the whole thing. If you only can look at the bottom half of, say, "La Gioconda" (and, yes, I'm desperately trying to be pedantic) you can hardly judge the beauty of the painting, nor Da Vinci's talent.
Greatly anticipated it —‘finally a kind of movie I want to see’, etc. Wowed by cinematog, design, acting, story …so why did I stop 40 mins in, yet to return? Drift nonissue 4 me; suspect I saw what psych/emotional dive-ride it was taking me on, and didn’t have the bandwidth for 😫. Pure Cope’25
I agree. I'm not a fan of the Brutalist.
It sucked.
Movie gets vastly more compelling in 2nd half
After an hour I paused it and never went back.
