Much of the conventional media has long believed there's news value in reporting what the president says. After all, he's the president. But with Trump & his crew, their statements are often false, misleading, or outright lies. Reporting them in a straightforward way empowers disinformation.
I wish we had more real journalists.
The absolute *least* the media should be doing is including the phrase “claimed without evidence” when reporting Trump’s statements.

Yup ever report of one of his statements should start with a disclaimer, like : "once again, the President reported a trade deal with no evidence of such a deal or confirmation from the other side. "

At this point - the only “news” organizations reporting Trump’s lies should be his state-run outlets like Fox and Newsmax etc.
Honestly, I was thinking the same thing today - like what's the value of press trekking along to Scotland with him. I would absolutely hate for that to be my reporting beat, but then I figured at least maybe they get to see a little of Scotland - a working tourist, sort of. Otherwise, useless.
Exactly. "president trump says...", "Elon claims...", "White House announces...", administration sources reveal..." are NOT the basis of any story. They are lies from people who lie about everything to advance their interests. The media has to assume they are lies and act accordingly.
Of anything, the media must report Trump's words, but always with the proviso that they are misinformation, disinformation or outright lies!
Same thing is true for "what Putin says".

I have had this exact thought for 12 years. Now. There is no doubt “the media” was/is complicit in all things Trump. Cynically I’d say it’s because of $, what else could it be?
In any other example, if a source lies to a reporter and gets the lie printed, the reporter would never trust that source again. But special rules are applied to our special boy.
Exactly. Earlier I compared the WH press room to an African waterhole. The gazelles & wildebeest have to go there for water, but it’s a predator ambush every time. For audiences too, by proxy. It’s why kings never go away. It’s easier on brains if people don’t know news happens elsewhere too.
Last time I checked the President lacks the power to “do trade deals” anyway. That power belongs to Congress.
Big media is a partner in the lies (stop calling it misinformation) that Trump and the rest of the Radical Right Republicans spread. Time to remember that they are the descendants of Cronkite, Wallace, Rather, Broder, etc. and stand up to the authoritarian bullies.
Yeah there's certainly news value in reporting it, but that value is negated if you leave out the context that we can't trust a single word coming out of Trump's mouth
