My humans know they both grew up in Michigan's upper peninsula! Human in Marquette along Lake Superior, and Other Human in Escanaba along Lake Michigan's shore! They both lived in Marquette for a time (how they managed to meet), they only moved to MN for Other Human's grad school initially.
Did they meet attending Northern Michigan? My brother went to Michigan Tech in the 1970's. Went up there for winter carnival a couple of times. It's beautiful, but way too much snow for me!
They met at a bar in Marquette. Human was attending NMU at the time and Other Human was a nurse working at Marquette General.

The humans miss the landscape and outdoor activities from Marquette, but job prospects are much better here in Rochester, MN for both humans!
I bet job prospects are better. I assume it's a much more polulated area than the UP.
Rochester alone has over 1/3 of the entire UP's population
