Salary negotiations, possibly? Late night talk/variety is kind of a dying breed. I often watch just certain bits after release on YouTube… so it could be a culmination of several factors (cost, advertising, streaming competition) causing CBS to abandon the format. I am surprised though.
How does salary negotiations not fall into the category of "other matters"? We all know why it was canceled. I'm criticizing the lame attempt at avoiding admitting it.

Well, yes and no. I know Trump is a hot topic for most, but no employer (except Vince McMahon) wants their employees bad-mouthing them. That part is fair. Considering how poorly late night talk shows are doing in general, it was probably easy to make this decision to kill the program permanently.
Comedy always mocks politicians… especially bad ones. CBS is bowing to pressure due to their merger. Sad.
That's the yes part. If you think Paramount shouldn't have caved, that's a reasonable position. But they caved, and a prominent employee bad-mouthed them. That part is hardly surprising.
Bad mouthing? I haven’t seen that at all. All I saw was “Hey this is a real bummer and we’re sad to see it go.” from Colbert. Stewart has been more outspoken, but I’d hardly call what he said “bad mouthing”. He’s speaking political commentary about the dangers of media under fascist threat.
And it is definitely a fascist threat to hold up a merger because you don’t like the political commentary. It’s literally a 1st Amendment issue.
He expressly blasted Paramount on his show, which is owned by Paramount. That's the entire issue, and it's legally framed as an employment issue, not a free speech issue.
Late night TV hosts have always criticized the parent corp. That was literally Letterman’s schtick for dozens of years. This is absolutely about bending the knee for the FCC merger approval.
Oh, we all know what this is *really* about. That's not in dispute here.
