My Parents were teenagers through WWII, in Lithuania, Poland and Germany, they have told me what they witnessed and experienced. What has been happening in Gaza for the last 2 years has already been reminding me of what happened in Germany in the 1940's!!

The big difference between USA 25 & Germany 33 is conditions when things went off the cliff. Hitler had a fertile field to work with. A staggered economy, the Versailles Treaty & general social unrest. Trump has to create as much of that first, rhetorically or in reality, in order to get his way.

Old Ball Of Rage @oldballofrage.bsky.social

Trump created none of it. The lack of conditions required for a populist takeover to happen naturally meant that far right interests had to buy or create media companies with the very intentional purpose of creating the delusions we now see. This is a decades old project; Fox News was 1996.

Trump did not have a lost war, a stagnant economy or general social unrest to the point of open insurrections. He created the illusion of a stagnant economy, tried to hold power through an insurrection & has been trying to provoke a mass casualty event.

Hitler walked into a perfect storm and used it to take power. Trump needs similar conditions, but they didn’t exist in 16 or 24, so in both cases he created the “I inherited a mess” lie. His sycophantic supporters lapped it up, despite all of the evidence to the contrary.

I disagree with a lot of that, North America is in a full blown affordability crisis since 2022 you are confusing that with “ the economy.”

Affordability is an issue, I know, however there are other components to the economy, and Trump did not inherit a mess in either election, and the only serious insurrection or insurrection like events were carried out by those who supported him. I didn’t say the situation was perfect.

What's very interesting about it too is this pervasive illusion that somehow Germany in the late 1930s was somehow more efficient and productive, or that the trains actually ran on time in Mussolini's Italy.

And when you can just decide resource allocation by fiat, you can definitely get some results. If your world begins and ends with train schedules and you don't care about where those resources came from that seems fine.
