If you are living in North America and have never read a book on fascism the time was years ago, but go to your library tomorrow.

Or ask Chat GTP for a checklist. The U.S. is well along the path.

Hell, I read Shirer's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich back in High School . . . Four and a half decades ago.

PBS makes excellent documentaries. There are great podcasts too. Some are intimidated by books.

Everything makes way more sense if you have done the required reading, I promise.

There are a bunch of excellent documentaries on Tubi (free) as well. Extremely educational.

Will add: it’s as simple as picking up a copy of Animal Farm (by George Orwell). That’s already a good start.

Animal Farm is an allegory that is most specifically a critique of communism. The books I'd recommend is 'On Tyranny' by Tom Snyder, 'Ur Fascism' by Umberto Eco, 'Anatomy of Fascism' by Paxton or 'Why Nations Fail' by Acemoglu/Robinson.

I read 1984 under its first term. It was scary then. It’s prophetic now.

Possibly Kimberly @possiblykim123.bsky.social

I read it in 1984, and my 8th grade social studies class did a deep dive into what it meant. I was 13 and could never imagine it being real.
