The US empire is ending. The loss of soft power effected by Trump's aid cuts and isolationism will just accelerate it. Welcome to Chinese hegemony.

I wrote a piece about China’s growing soft power in my Substack. It touches a bit on the U.S.’ isolationism under Trump and how its good for the PRC’s global image. open.substack.com/pub/beyondse...

@electricfelix.bsky.social Agree with Felix. Also #EU underestimates this: The more #climatecrisis hurts us, the more, moral leadership and soft power will be attributed to those adressing this seriously. By 2030 US, and likely EU will have lost all their global standing, while #China will lead

Part of the issue is that in a centralised planned economy (like China's) it is possible to mitigate the short-term issues that are introduced by capitalists. Unfortunately, in the west, neo-liberalism has robbed governments of the power to do that.

Well not sure if it just neo Liberalismus? Seems to me in particular like right wing populism is flourishing with a shortsited anti climate protection mindset

Well, the reason that right wing populism is pushing that as a story is that the narrative is enabled by the corporatism which has been strengthened by neo-liberalism. The reduction of governmental control over key parts of the economy simply enables oligarchs to exert political power.

The future of humanity has been sacrificed on the altar of 'shareholder interests'.
