Oh look we have weevils in the house. I traced it back (I think/hope) to some bird seed we had stored and not actual food.

I can back your view with my own experience. When I spotted Rüsselkäfer/weevils in our home, I found conclusive evidence that they had emerged from hamster feed. Some of the grains in the bag had distinctive holes that had been clearly caused by the beetles.

Ok, not to myself: don’t get a bird or a hamster as their food brings unwanted additional pets with them. I better stay with carnivores as pets…

Pets are harmless compared to kids of a certain age. All the diseases you thought western countries left behind, rear their ugly heads in daycare centres. My favourite are threadworms. The female worm leaves the anus to lay eggs. All this causes itching, which results in the next infection cycle.
