From the International Meteor Organization: Meteor velocities range from about 11 km/s (very slow) to 72 km/s (very fast). 40 km/s is roughly medium speed. The Perseids are fast at 59 km/s.

Thanks. In my 53 years I never thought about meteor speed. Cool. Now I’ll think about them zooming around instead my dumb thought of constant speed.
