I could not believe what I was seeing, the callousness of the mongrel reporters, the questions...egging this young boy on to give them answers that they were prompting. I was waiting for someone to intervene, but it never happened. Where were the guardian adults? Shame on all involved!
They said his grandpa gave his permission. Still awful.
Better let him experience a real mass shooting with his classmate shot on top of him in private??.. Pretend it never happened or a movie or fairy tale...He shouldn't tell of the horror, just repress it and suffer in silence?? Why cause it shames the gunNutLovers?? F that! Let the children speak.
I stand by my original posting. That interview was a media moment for points and profit. Nothing more. Nothing less. However that young victim was made available, it was wrong. Someone should have intervened and protected him.
1/2. I think the holiday pics of elected officials posing with big guns, includng their own young children holding auto-weapons, would be much more traumatizing for this young victum than speaking of what happened.
2/2. Perhaps, public accounts by many of these young victims can be helpful to motivate some to rethink their infatuation and love of guns over kids.
I respect your point of view and appreciate the opportunity for discussion. My feeling is that this child didn't have time to fully process what had occurred, yet was being 'interviewed', pushed to provide details. Talking it through should have happened in a safe space with family first.
1/2. And i appreciate your intention to protect kids. Perhaps we saw a different interview. The 10yr old i saw interviewed was not "pushed" for details at all, even when he told of the most guesome part that could have easily been exploited, when his friend covered him and got shot.
2/2. He seemed like he was getting it off his chest. That's therapeutic and may make some hardcoreGunLovers rethink their illogical positions as they profess to love children.
As i do...these children, grown up in the age of mass school shooting and routine shooter drills need to speak of their realities not internalize the horror that has been imposed upon them.
