I've seen someone on a stationary motorcycle fall over sideways and the sound of his head striking the road could be heard 50 yards away. Good job he was wearing a helmet.

Your head is a lot further from the ground and the bike makes it harder to save yourself. Weight and a tendency to keep hold of the bars.

Genuine accidents happen. But when there are laws & really good equipment to help minimise accidents we should use the equipment. When I was a child I cycled everywhere without a helmet, bike helmets weren't even a thing until I was in my late teens. But All our children wear them...
