That's not a take I'd heard before and it makes sense. I can't help feeling that his behavior at his trial and afterwards paint him in a "went over to the dark side" sort of light. Thoughts? Need to stress that I'm looking to understand better, not shoot down what you said.
Is it perhaps a case of going to the dark side was the path of least resistance and he'd get his ego stroked?
As the OP points out, if one side of the great political chasm was calling you a racist murderer, and the other a generational hero, which would you gravitate to?
