Free press is not about publishing - it is about access, ability to ask questions and yes, distribution. There are several components. Freedom of speech is the ability to say what you want.

For-profit corporate news always had this vulnerability, beholden to parent companies, ad revenue, and investors. This isn’t new, just worsening. Best to flock to, support and make mainstream, nonprofit news orgs who show committment, fact-checking, and reach. Democracy Now, for example.
