So we all know that the “snakes” chased out of Ireland are actually pagans, right? So yes let’s do this! Leave behind the Colonizer-Catholic and Anglican churches’ hold on Ireland and bring back indigenous religions!!

(1/2)It's more likely a folk explanation for why there are no snakes in Ireland, as the first wave of Christianity was heavily syncretized with existing Pagan beliefs and practices, and Christian monestaries pre-dated Patrick's arrival.

(2/2) Early Irish Catholicism as practiced was quite Pagan and insular to the Irish Sea area. That's why Henry II had the blessing to invade Ireland from (the Englishman) Pope Adrian IV "to check the torrent of wickedness [...], to sow the seeds of virtue" and to start forced tithing to Rome.
